Audiobook Studio 1.x docs

Welcome to Audiobook Studio

Audiobook Studio turns your written chapters into a finished audiobook, using voices that run on your own computer.

At a glance
  • Free and open source, published by Bright Oddity Press.
  • You build a book in four steps: add text, pick voices, generate audio, assemble.
  • Easiest way to install: Pinokio.
  • This handbook covers version 1.x.

What it does

You paste or upload your chapters, choose who reads them, and the app makes the audio. At the end it joins every chapter into one audiobook file (.m4b) you can listen to or share.

Voices run locally on your computer by default, so your text stays with you. An optional cloud voice engine exists; see Settings.

The big picture

Create a project, add your chapters, make or choose voices, generate the audio, then assemble the audiobook.

Want to listen first?

Try a live demo of the 2.0 interface. It runs on sample data, and you can hear voice samples too, before you install anything. Find both on the Audiobook Studio 2.0 page.

Coming in 2.0. A new major version is on the way with a redesigned app.
